Autograph letter signed, dated : [New York], 27 August 1918, to Miss [Marion] Bauer, 1918 Aug. 27.

Saying he must either enlist within a few days or be drafted, reporting that he wrote a second and third string quartet movement that summer so that the quartet is now complete, that he has been orchestrating his Poem for flute and orchestra and his three new songs [Three Poems of Fiona MacLeod], which Marcia van Dresser will sing with the Philadelphia Orchestra, that Maggie Teyte and Povla Frijsh want to sing them also, saying how much he likes the Ravel Valses [nobles et sentimentales], that he is not sure about [Leo] Ornstein's being a primitive, mentioning [Adolfo] Betti [of the Flonzaley Quartet], John Palmer, Michio Ito, Mana-Zucca, etc.
